Playing the instrument means working within the laws of physical movement in combination with the laws of the instrument itself at the service of the music.

The Till Approach is a result of Sophie’s work under the guidance of Edna Golandsky at the Golandsky Institute, the pre-eminent institute for the teaching of the Taubman Approach.

1.

We know when things feel right and wrong. Even a very small child will complain if they are given clothing that is too tight. We instinctively know when things bother us, so we don’t hurt ourselves. We stop when things feel wrong and change what we are doing.

2.

All movements involved in playing are based in the same physical logic as our daily activities such as holding a glass, using a knife and fork etc. We hurt ourselves when we employ movement outside of this logic. When we employ alien movements, the brain and the body cannot do what they are designed to do.

3.

The Till Approach gives players knowledge and ownership of the tiny movements involved in playing, providing players with a tool box of precise, interacting movements that serve music making at the highest level.
